Beirut, Lebanon — Dozens Killed in Lebanon as Israel Intensifies Strikes
Dozens of people were killed across southern and eastern Lebanon after Israel launched one of its heaviest waves of airstrikes in recent weeks, dramatically escalating fighting with Hezbollah despite a fragile ceasefire agreement. Lebanese health officials said at least 31 people, including women and children, died in the latest bombardment, while dozens more were wounded as strikes hit towns in the south and the Bekaa Valley.

The Israeli military said it targeted more than 100 Hezbollah positions, including weapons depots, rocket-launching infrastructure and militant compounds. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel was “deepening” military operations in Lebanon and vowed to intensify pressure on Hezbollah after continued rocket and drone attacks on northern Israel.
Israel also issued new evacuation orders covering large areas south of Lebanon’s Zahrani River, declaring the region a “combat zone” and urging civilians to move north toward safer areas. The order triggered another wave of displacement as thousands of residents fled towns already heavily damaged by months of conflict. Aid agencies warned that overcrowded shelters and worsening humanitarian conditions were placing enormous strain on local communities.

The renewed offensive has raised fears that the April ceasefire brokered with international mediation may be collapsing. Hezbollah responded by launching additional drone and rocket attacks against Israeli military positions near the border, while Israeli forces expanded ground operations deeper into southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s government condemned the strikes and accused Israel of targeting civilian areas, while hospitals across southern Lebanon reported severe shortages of medical supplies as casualties continued to rise. International concern also mounted over the growing humanitarian crisis, with more than one million people reportedly displaced since the conflict sharply escalated earlier this year.
The conflict has intensified alongside broader regional tensions involving Iran, Hezbollah and Israel, raising fears of a wider Middle East confrontation as diplomatic efforts struggle to contain the violence.
